Carnival of Improvement 01 January 25, 2007
Posted by The Probabilist in : [Links], Carnivals , trackback
I received a total of 28 entries to the first Carnival of Improvement. I’ve taken the liberty to present the top five posts in no particular order. Congratulations to these authors for their effort. Following are all the entries categorized and somewhat organized according to my personal rating. Those who received the same rating are posted in the order they were submitted.
I also added the word count of each post next to the links for your convenience. Unfortunately there were only entries in five categories, so I decided not to drop out any articles even though I scared you with a 5-articles-max-per-category rule. Let me know how I can improve the carnival of improvement further.
Top Five Posts
The Science of Success. (1150) is Craig Harper’s 10-trait result of observing highly successful people in action and mind-set. I’m great at six and know now which ones to focus more attention on to raise the bar. Review and work on yourself and you might be the next test subject for explaining success.
Green is Making Me See Red (L-O-N-G) (1301) by Wenchypoo is the most well written article of them all. Being opinionated on something does have a great impact when you work on the words you use - in this case on energy conservation hysteria. You’ll like it.
Commit Yourself to Action by Investing in Success (722) is fellow blogger John Wesley’s great advice on how to ensure greater commitment in your personal development in any desired area - yet another insight on how money can be a positive medium.
Using Visualization for Success (1038) by Raymond David Salas is an inspiring story on how visualization produces extraordinary real-life results.
How to Find What You Love to Do (3528) by Brian Kim was written as far back as last Summer, so it equals the top five along with the others although in my opinion, it’s the best entry in this carnival. Reserve some extra time for it, as it will drive you to act in discovering what you love to do. Do you know your answer?
Consciousness & Understanding
Drawing Inspirations from Your Miserable Failures (1023) by Ellesse does a great job in reshaping our perspective on how to keep going. This is a must-read to all bloggers who may have hit a dent on the path of progression and tenacity.
Improving Your Brain Tools: Reading Emotional Messages in the Face (598) by Caroline Latham at Sharp Brains introduces how careful observation on facial expressions can give deeper and more accurate understanding of a person’s true emotional state.
Failure Is Impossible (245) says Josh Bickford. Although it’s a quick read, focus on the keyword and contemplate if such a shift in your mind-set would empower you to achieve whatever you desire.
Invincible Happiness (235) briefly shared by Miguel Trujillo shows you what unbreakable happiness is about.
Balance Your Life With a Feng Shui Cleanse (547) is Alexander Tretjakov’s suggestion on using Feng Shui to improve your productivity as you find greater balance in your work environment.
Ask The Right Personal Development Questions (878) by Edward Mills ignited me to respond with this: The why is more powerful than the how. I can tell a person how to become rich, but they simply won’t do it if they don’t know why they’d want to. Asking why you can’t is agreeably wrong. Asking why you aren’t can drive a person to find out how to do something.
Recycle Aluminum Foil (99) is one of Phil’s tips for humanity.
Finances & Investing
Business 101: Teaching Myself Entrepreneurship (759) is Silicon Valley Blogger’s story of how she was more of or less forced to start thinking like an entrepreneur to generate income. Here’s a tip I want to share in response to the fifth lesson - to improve the odds on succeeding in that endeavour.
Get Paid to Be Green (1317) by Michelle presents four additional ways to care for the environment, and earn money on the process. Is it the best way to get people engaged?
Quit doubting yourself and tap into your assets already (408) is Katie’s story on how anyone can make it big no matter what your personal quirks or limitations. Don’t let them hold you back.
Health & Exercising
Must We Grow Old? (3088) written by Robert N. Seitz was submitted by Sean J. vaughan and goes very deeply into scientific ways to prolong life. You might learn a few new words as well as it is quite an academic presentation.
Do Not Think About Food! (758) by John Peter shows you how to reduce your interest in and stimulus to eat more than you should. It looks like people ought to wake up and see where we’re going on the obesity curve.
From Chubby to Studdly Part 1 (818) by Arun will give you an introduction and tease you to read more on how he was able to get in shape.
Slimming and Slogging (645) is Erek Ostrowski’s response on how to make sure that you make it all the way on your weight loss challenge.
Life Changing Experiment: Day 1 (609) is Chris Johnson’s initial entry into making some changes into his lifestyle.
Why Start Cooking? (416) Kathy Maister asks. She’s got 10 tips that might inspire your hidden culinary abilities to surface, presented at her colourful, media rich blog.
Motivation & Productivity
How To Deal With Choice Overload (1201) is Kavit Haria’s take on why and how to avoid a splitted focus when making every day decisions on things we may want.
The 7 Traits of Highly Effective Teams (1600) by David E. from Worldwide Success summarizes the valuable traits of successful teams in action. Read on so you know what to look for, or what to create as a leader of a team.
5 Ways to Use Your Time More Efficiently (1711) by Debra Moorhead is a most welcome guide to help improve your productivity and time management. Experience is backing up her words.
Showing up for Success (649) is an article by Karen Lynch explaining that simply showing up doesn’t guarantee motivation and results to 100 %. Mental energy, interest and drive take you a long way.
Eliminate Procrastination, Now! (614) by Victor Fam comprises of three useful pointers on getting things done. Read them and follow them.
Self-Fulfilling Prophecy (1293) as presented by Patricia from A Better You Blog explains how the law of attraction works in both the good and the bad. Make sure you choose what you want in life.
Psychology & Relationships
I’m OK, You’re an Idiot (621) is Charles H. Green’s way of saying that people can achieve improved results from collaboration if they first nullify and push their egos out of the way.
I hope you enjoyed the links. Carnival of Improvement 02 will appear next week, same time, same place. Click here to submit your article.

Great carnival Johan!
Hello,
You’ve got a lot of good articles in the carnival, and I have found some other useful ones on your site as well.
Thanks for hosting
Todd
Great carnival! Thanks for including me! I’m new to all of this and I not only thank-you for telling people about http://startcooking but also for opening up many new worlds for all of us to explore. Cheers!
Thank you for your words of encouragement. It was quite a time-consuming task compiling it all together as I decided on the last day to add the short descriptions in the mix as well. The next one will be easier to host with the added productivity experience I gained.
I’d appreciate you letting me know if you want to receive ratings for your articles as well. Some may want to add the edge of competition and drive to improve while others may want to keep the carnival within an uncompetitive atmosphere where all entries are added.
I got your message, saw the carnival, and am adding you to my list of “recommended carnivals” on my blog. You can blame my parents for my word usage–they were both articulate alcoholics, and used big words to verbally cut people off at the knees. Context is everything!
