I haven’t been able to grasp the importance of regular daily news, whether it’s covered through TV, radio or newspapers. There’s just something wrong with constantly reporting about terrible deaths, political hot potatoes or misbehaving celebrities. This view is most likely reasoned through the facts and my beliefs that over 150,000 people die daily anyway, I’m solely responsible of my life and celebrities deserve more privacy.
So if you even remotely think like me then The Onion is a news source you enjoy. While the topics covered are most often societal and practical, the message is always in an out of the box, entertaining and thought provoking perspective. Just the way I like it.
Reading through some of the articles inevitably makes the question pop out. Did this really happen? That’s for you to decide. What is more important in the regular news anyway, what actually happened or how it made you feel, think and respond? What drives you to become a better person, fear and others’ opinions or ingenuity and your own opinions?
I can totally relate to the slogan “America’s Finest News Source” since it’s the only American news source I follow.
But even without a grain of salt it makes much more sense to me reading The Onion daily than any other regular daily news source. I won’t bring up any particular excellent articles in this post, but probably in the future within its own entries. Hopefully you’ll find something that cracks you up and makes you ponder.
